Title: Dont Get Burned: Understanding Your Fire Permit, Open Burn, and Asbestos Regulations
Description: The NH Department of Environmental Services has partnered with the NH Division of Forests and Lands to offer a workshop for solid waste operators on open burning and asbestos. Topics include, What can I burn at my landfill? What is construction and demolition debris? and How do I obtain a burn permit and what are the laws pertaining to burn permits? Asbestos is a naturally-occurring mineral found in building materials such as floor tiles, ceiling tiles, and roofing materials. It certain forms, it is a serious health concern. NH law requires an asbestos survey be performed prior to building demolition. As a landfill operator, are you sure that the construction and demolition material you are accepting at your facility is free from asbestos? Learn what asbestos is, how to identify it, and what to do should it show up at your solid waste facility. Participants will receive 2.5 hours of Continuing Professional Development upon completion of the workshop. To register, email Tara Mae Albert at SWOT@des.nh.gov or call her at (603) 271-3713.
